Awesome weekend!

Reintroducing Sir Thomas back to the group was great to see that he is smiling again. It was so funny when I introduced him to Michael & Sorcha as Elvis and they still had no idea who he was. Then someone ask if they were going to talk to Sir Thomas. It was so funny when they realize that Elvis was Sir Thoma. Yippee I don't have to call him Elvis anymore. The man got up at 6 am go drive home and get his archery equipment. How nuts is that?
Saturday I was feastocrate which meant that I was in the kitchen almost all day. As of the afternoon I am now apprentice to Mistress Caere Wythers. Had all my friends there and Thomas. Then back to the kitchen.
We had almost everything ready for feast and they held court. Onora comes running back into the kitchen to tell me that I have been called into court, me thinking she is playing a joke on me was caught off guard. I told her that I had to finish the soup. She said no really they want you in court. I get to court and they call me up. OMG they are talking about what I can rattle off the top of my head. I got my Silver Hammer. The words were from a dear friend, Seth, which made it all that more special. However when I turned around and saw everyone behind me I think I said something like, "Oh holy shit."
It was a wonderful weekend, I got to spend it with a special friend who, is coming back to the group, I was apprentice, I got my GOA and the feast was wonderful.
Wish you all could have been there we got photos but the video died.

Meeting Of Viking Minds

Now on to trying to recruit more Vikings. Just thoughts:
BBQ @ Sam's for anyone interested in Viking Living History
Second weekend of the Platte River Viking Boat ride have some help rowing and some come to the encampment.
Get people seeing and handling what we do and how we do it to get them interested.
Don't stay in the long house when the temperature is going to be below 30 at night until you have proper bedding & someone to tend the fire every 1 1/2 hours.
Learned we need to teach Eddie how to butcher a deer. Cutting the legs off and bagging them & freeze does not help when trying to thaw & cook it for only a few people. Love Eddie.
Anyone one think of any other way to get people interested? Am I insane for all of this?

Nyr Heida is having a gathering at the Longhouse on March 14th. It is suppose to be open to anyone who wants to come see what they crazy people do. The guys are suppose to have a training session to warm up after the winter. I would love to see those who don’t fight get together and share what they have been doing. Its only Feb and I have been put in charge of the group as of Jan 1 and I already have a headache. I love the group but getting them moving sometimes takes a cattle prod.

I am working on a His & Her's 10th century High Class Kiev Rus. Since this is going to be so elaborate I am making the hers for me. I have ordered 10,000 pearls, 50 amber & 50 carnelians (sp?). The boots are going to be the hardest part but Tatjaina is going to help me since she made hers. However all those years ago when Trim guy made his red boots I laughed at him. Now I will eat words. the boots are red with gold trim. I am currently looking for the red silk & blue silk but there are 2 more gowns under that so I am not sure if I want to do the wool second layer or not. What do you guys think?. Besides that I am crazy.
Here is the sketch. There are more pearls then what the sketch shows.

Now for of you out there who have heard what 2 things I want to learn , please make sure that I do not get side tracked and forget this. Deadline to do a good job is KA&S.
You know I really want to just have a class were everyone bring what they are working on or their questions and we discuss them or just the ideas. I really want to have a Dark Age track of classes for Next Clothiers, cause it kind of to late for this year. Dam I am getting into this, just make sure I stay grounded. I always want to be where people can get to me and ask questions.
Hey Baroness, how does it feel??? Glad I could be there.
Back to writing the final class for Clothiers.. By the way those that heard I couldn't find my map I found it last night about midnight.

Something I have let fester since last weekend
Jan. 11th, 2009 | 09:32 am
mood:
frustrated
This person has got her GOA within 6 months of being in the SCA. Her goal is to have her Laural with in the next 6 months. What was said to me that just kind of did not set right with me was this. "If you are not a Laural no one will listen to you or take what you say with any clout." Now I know I don't have a GOA even but I do take pride in what I do know & share to be the best of my knowledge. To Me Being Laural is not the end goal or even for me to get a GOA. Its in the knowledge that I can pass on and see others use and make things more authentic. But to have someone tell me that did hurt a bit. I guess this is one reason I am in Calontir! I can sit with about anyone and share what I know it does not matter what level they are.
This weekend showed me that I do have information to share with others even more and the fact that I have helped other achieve a better understanding of the dark age clothing. I thought that it was funny that 2 other entries came to me to ask what to do to make it better.

What was embarrassing was getting called up for an award and having to whisper to ask why. I had to ask HRM why I got a leather mallet. She told me research, I just never thought of research as a science since its a necessity for your projects.

First off I at least has some people trying different things. Next time I need to make sure that I have someone besides myself running the hands on or at least to do the demo part. I was far to busy to sit and do them demos. I really didn't think that I would be that busy.
I got Michael's outfit done. I went up in court to give out the prizes and headed back to my seat and was asked to stay by their excellencies. I was made Baronial A&S Champion for Lonely Tower. Which was cool until His Excelleny started showing of his new outfit and when bounding across the stage to show it off. The I became embarrassed. Someone asked me why I do it and I realized that it is the reaction of the person getting the new outfits that is the reason. Michael was bouncing around the entire time he was wearing it and acting like a little kid with a new toy. But I have to say it look Dam Good this time. Here are a couple of pic, You tell me

Check List:
1. Undertunic
2. over tunic Kragland
3. hat with trim
4 hand woven leg wraps
5. damendorf pants
Of this 1-3 are done. 4 is started. 5 Not yet, however they shouldn't take more then a couple days.
Problem: #4 is taking longer then expected. The widest I have ever done was the 2 in wide now I am trying to do the 3 1/2" on a osberg loom, Looks cool but I was only able to do part of what I normally do.
Any ideas? Less then 2 weeks until he has to wear it.

Will someone please tell me if I am Sane?

Someone please tell me why am I weaving leg wraps for this???? Is there something that has been ingrained into me that makes me think that if I am doing a 10th C Dane that I have to do the entire outfit. What happened to that person who would just do 1 item and call it that. I doing everything by hand myself. Is this insane or not???
By the way remind me later that I really need to use a thimble due to the tendency to sew everything to my fingers.
Yes Hrothny before you ask I will get pictures of the out fit up but won't be until the weekend.

I am almost finished with HE Micheal's Tunic Trim & I have ordered his linen for his pants. I still have to weave him leg wraps. I have 3 weeks to do all this. Anyone taking wagers on if I can get it done? I am not sure if I can. Seems to me that I always take on the big projects and somehow I almost always get them done. I spend the time to research the project and lock that in then it takes me time to get the nerve to even start. Questions that I usually have going through my mind, "Will have do it correctly (most authentically)?, Will I be able to pull this off? Will the person I make it for like it? What can I learn from this? Will it look right & fit right when I am done? If I do this for someone else are they going to appreciate the work & love that I put into it?
Every outfit I make I put a part of me into. Does anyone know what I mean?
T
